Global Transition Stats are In!

Following the Joint Annual IAF/ILAC meetings in Vancouver in 2017, an action was taken to gather reliable and robust information on the status of the transitions to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015.

To achieve this, the IAF (International Accreditation Forum) members such as UKAS and ANAB, were asked to provide four sets of data based on the number of certifications for ISO 9001:2008, ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2004 and ISO 14001:2015.

This data was collected from certification bodies such as NQA, in January 2018 and has been used to determine the progress for certificates transitioning to the 2015 standards globally.

The vast majority of IAF Accreditation Bodies responded to the request and provided data from a total of over 1 million ISO 9001 certificates and 350,000 ISO 14001 certificates. As this has been coordinated by the IAF, all of these certificates are deemed accredited.

The data as of 31 December 2017 has just been published with the transition rates for ISO 9001 at 36.94% and 39.73% for ISO 14001. This means that less than 40% of the active certificates for ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 have made the transition to the 2015 standards.

Whilst these stats are the global stats, it is understood that the UK is well aligned with these figures and therefore has a busy period ahead as we enter the final six months of the transition period.

NQA is happy to announce that our clients are significantly ahead of this number and we would like to therefore congratulate all clients that have successfully transitioned.

The research will be updated in March to determine the progression of these stats as the final six months of the transition period begins.
