60 Seconds with Jonathan Nicholson
What is your role?
I am on the Aerospace Client Services Team. My clients are all single site structure AS9100, AS9110, and AS9120 certifications and (for the most part) less than 100 employees. I really like being able to help our small business clients, who help supply our world’s biggest Aerospace companies.
Most memorable moment at work?
The period leading up to the ISO 9001 and AS 91XX series transition deadline in 2018, was quite memorable. There was a sense that there was a mild panic across the industry, which we didn’t feel at NQA. We had this calm method, which I credit our management team, for having foresight and a plan. Everyone that wanted audits, got across the finish line with minimal issues. It was ‘Plan-Do-Check-Act’ in action!
Favourite things about working for NQA?
The support of our leadership team, for both professional and personal issues, and the knowledge of the certification standards by our team of management and client service representatives, is one of the reasons why I like working at NQA. Our work environment that encourages learning more about the all of the standards, and team discussion. We share ideas and helpful experiences, relating to servicing our clients. If I’m not 100% sure about an answer to a client, I can pop up out of my cube and ask a colleague, or ask one of the directors for the standard. We’ve had opportunities to take internal auditor classes, observe client audits, and be involved in the improvement our processes in the office.
We also have some great team building events. Being a huge sports fan, I especially like the events at the local team’s matches. We also have a costume contest for Halloween, and we’ve have a monthly get together to recognize employee birthdays.
And there’s the food in the employee kitchen! We have Bagel Monday and Muffin Friday, and lots of cookies. I really think we work with Cookie Monster, disguised as one of the managers.
