Health and Safety Management

ISO 45003

ISO 45003:2021 is the first international standard to give guidance on managing psychosocial health and safety risks in the workplace.

ISO 45003: Psychological Health and Safety at Work

What is ISO 45003?

ISO 45003 provides guidelines for identifying and managing psychosocial risk within an Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Management System. It adds to what is already covered within ISO 45001:2018, which is designed to prevent work-related injury and ill health and to provide safe working environments and to promote well-being at work.

Developed by the International Organisation of Standardization, organizations can now identify the conditions, circumstances and workplace demands that may have the potential to negatively impact the psychological health and well-being of its employees.

The guidelines set out to provide employers support on how to manage and reduce psychosocial risk in the workplace and make changes to offer continual improvement.

The guidance addresses areas that can impact a worker’s psychological health, including poor communication, extreme pressure, poor management and a negative organizational culture.

The Standard also covers areas such as how to identify and control the conditions and hazards that have the potential to impact workers and how to determine what changes need to be made to improve the working environment by using an Occupational Health and Safety Management System with a focus on well-being.
