Requirements to wear a face covering which covers a person’s nose and mouth, on public transport (i.e. buses, trains, trams, aircraft, water taxis), are introduced to reduce the risk of infection or contamination by Coronavirus (Covid-19).
 
An adult failing to wear a face covering can be denied access to a public transport service or directed to leave a public transport service if they do not wear a face covering when asked to do so.
 
Adults may also be issued with a fixed penalty notice of £100 for failing to wear a face covering on public transport.
 
Exceptions exist for:

  • children under the age of 11;

  • emergency responders;

  • transport operator employees; and

  • in cases where an emergency responder is acting in the course of their duty.
