The Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Scheme Order 2022
01 February 2023
Amends/Commences: The Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Scheme Order 2020
Comes into force: 1st January 2023
Jurisdiction: United Kingdom
This adjustment allows operators in the scheme to exclude their 2020 activity levels when applying for changes to free allocation in 2022, under certain conditions. Operators will need to show a discrepancy of at least 15% of reduction in emissions due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Hospitals and small emitters (HSEs) now have the option to voluntarily exit the opt-out scheme and join the main scheme from 2024. Operators of HSEs have a one-off window between January 2023 and March 2023 to re-enter the main scheme.
Global Warming Potential (GWP) values are updated.
