Environment Wales Act 2016

Under this Act, the National Assembly for Wales can make various provision to promote the environment in Wales. The Act covers the following:

Sustainable management of natural resources
- Climate change
- Charges for carrier bags
- Collection and disposal of waste
- Fisheries for shellfish
- Marine licencing
The aim of the legislation is to:
- promote sustainable management of natural resources;
- provide for targets for reducing emissions of greenhouse gases;
- reform the law on charges for carrier bags;
- provide for the separate collection of waste, prohibit disposal of food waste to sewers and provide for prohibiting or regulating disposal of waste by incineration;
- make provision about several and regulated fisheries for shellfish;
- make provision about fees for marine licences;
- establish the Flood and Coastal Erosion Committee; and
- make minor changes to the law about land drainage and byelaws made by the Natural Resources Body for Wales.
