The Ionising Radiation (Basic Safety Standards) (EU Exit) Regulations 2018

17 December 2018

Coming into force on the 28th March 2019 across England, NI, Scotland, Wales the 2018 Miscellaneous Provision Regulations set out certain requirements in relation to ‘orphan sources’.

‘Orphan sources’ is defined by reference to the European Council Directive 2013/59/Euratom (the Basic Safety Standards Directive).

The Ionising Radiation (Basic Safety Standards) (Miscellaneous Provisions) Regulations 2018 (SI 2018/482) insert a new definition of orphan sources which is referenced to UK legislation rather than to the European Basic Safety Standards Directive. The fundamental meaning of the term is unchanged.
