Blackline Safety Europe Ltd Case Study

02 August 2024
Blackline Safety is a global technology leader driving innovation in the industrial workforce through the Internet of Things.

Blackline provides wearable devices, personal and area gas monitoring, cloud-connected software, and data analytics to meet demanding safety challenges and enhance overall productivity for organisations with coverage in more than 100 countries.

Making positive changes

In line with their annual Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting, Blackline Safety aims to achieve net zero emissions across the company, emphasising their commitment to reducing their environmental impacts, improving their community, and increasing overall sustainability.

Blackline Safety Europe in the UK and France have led the way on this journey, having last year undertaken a full carbon footprint journey and formed subsequent emissions reduction plans for each site.

The forward-thinking company agrees that having their carbon neutral status verified is an important step as they continue to work towards managing and improving the environmental impacts of their global operations.

Building a greener future together

Tackling climate change is an issue that goes beyond borders, and is a priority for governments worldwide. It is widely recognised that the technology industry plays a significant role in in this, with many businesses like Blackline embracing the need to operate in an environmentally responsible way and to both understand and minimise their impact on the planet.

In an effort to show their commitment to the environment, Blackline has implemented the carbon neutrality standard to demonstrate that their emissions do not contribute to a net increase in global emission levels.

PAS 2060 is an internationally recognised standard designed to verify the accuracy of these claims and help companies in all industries achieve carbon neutrality through an ongoing process of continual improvement.

After speaking with expert sustainability consultants, Auditel, and fellow colleagues here at Blackline it was decided that the PAS 2060 verification was the methodology best suited to help us achieve our ‘green’ objectives. We chose NQA as our certification body due to their quick response times to our enquiries and outstanding customer service.

During our PAS 2060 journey, working with Auditel and NQA was a great decision as it made the entire verification process a manageable task which didn't feel overwhelming.

Our lead verifier was Stephen Burt, NQA’s Carbon & Sustainability Services Director. He was great to deal with and explained the entire process ensuring every step of the Verification process was detailed and understood from our side before continuing. This in turn has changed our internal processes into an asset for our business as we are now able to share our carbon neutrality journey with all our customers and provide detailed reports to evidence how we got there.

Recognising the importance of consistency

Blackline Safety recognises the impact of climate change on their business, including both the climate risks and opportunities.

They are demonstrating their commitment to continued accountability following their first year aligning with Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and have made the initial steps towards integrating the process of identifying risks, maintaining and mitigating risks within their risk management process.

The organisation is also in the process of building out a more robust process to manage their climate related risks and opportunities and aim to integrate their TCFD framework with the general and climate-related standards released by the International Sustainability Standards Board once the Company releases those standards.
